Hindi is one of the major languages of India and one of the most widely spoken languages in the world, with over half a billion speakers. It's written in a beautiful script called Devanagari, which looks quite different from the Roman alphabet used for English. The script flows from left to right and has graceful curving lines that connect the letters along the top.

Hindi developed in northern India and is closely related to Urdu, another major South Asian language.
