Pomeranian
A very small, fluffy pet dog with a lively personality.
A Pomeranian is a small, fluffy dog breed known for its thick fur coat and lively personality. These tiny dogs typically weigh only three to seven pounds when fully grown, about the size of a large book, but they carry themselves like they're much bigger. Their distinctive appearance comes from a double coat of fur that stands out from their body, making them look like little puffballs with a fox-like face and alert, triangular ears.
Despite their small size, Pomeranians are energetic and confident. They love attention and often act as if they're in charge of the household. The breed was originally much larger, descended from working sled dogs in the Arctic region and developed in the historical region of Pomerania (an area between Poland and Germany), but over time breeders developed them into the pocket-sized companions many people know today.
Pomeranians come in many colors: orange, black, white, cream, and brown are common. Queen Victoria of England kept Pomeranians in the late 1800s, which helped make them popular as companion animals. Their fluffy coat requires regular brushing to prevent matting, and they need daily exercise despite their small legs. While adorable, Pomeranians can be quite vocal, barking at visitors or anything unusual they notice. These alert little dogs make devoted companions who believe they're much larger and more important than their actual size suggests.
