Quran
The holy book of the religion of Islam.
The Quran is the holy book of Islam, one of the world's major religions. Muslims believe it contains the words of God as revealed to the Prophet Muhammad over 1,400 years ago in Arabia.
For Muslims, the Quran is similar to what the Bible is for Christians or the Torah is for Jews: it's their most sacred text. Muslims believe the Quran should be recited in its original Arabic language, and many Muslims memorize large portions of it or even the entire book. The Quran is divided into 114 chapters called surahs that vary in length.
