RSVP
To reply if you are going to an event.
RSVP is a polite request for someone to let you know whether they can attend an event. You'll see it at the bottom of invitations for birthday parties, weddings, or school events, often with a date: “Please RSVP by March 15.”
The letters stand for a French phrase meaning “please respond,” but you don't need to know French to use it. When you RSVP, you're simply telling the host “yes, I'm coming” or “no, I can't make it.” This helps them know how many people to expect, how much food to prepare, and how many chairs to set up.
RSVPing shows consideration and good manners. When you respond promptly to an invitation, you're helping someone plan their event and showing respect for their time and effort.
You can use RSVP as a verb too: “Did you RSVP to Emma's party yet?” The word reminds us that invitations deserve a response, even if your answer is no.
