Saturday
The day of the week between Friday and Sunday.
Saturday is often considered the seventh and final day of the week, falling between Friday and Sunday. For many people, it's the first day of the weekend, when there's no school or work and you can sleep in, play with friends, tackle a project you've been excited about, or just relax.
The name comes from the Roman god Saturn, who was associated with agriculture and time.
Saturday has a different feeling than Sunday. While Sunday often carries the weight of Monday approaching, Saturday feels wide open, full of possibility. It's the day for birthday parties, sports games, family outings, or finally building that model you've been saving. Many families use Saturday for chores and errands, but there's usually still time left over for fun.
In Jewish tradition, Saturday is the Sabbath (called Shabbat), a holy day of rest that begins Friday evening. For much of history, Saturday was a regular working day for many people, but during the 1900s, the five-day work week became standard in many countries, giving Saturday its current status as a day off for many workers and students.
