Saturn
The sixth planet from the Sun with big icy rings.
Saturn is the sixth planet from the Sun and the second-largest planet in our solar system, famous for the stunning rings that circle it. These rings are made of billions of chunks of ice and rock, some as small as grains of sand and others as big as houses, all orbiting together in flat, glowing bands that make Saturn one of the most beautiful sights in the night sky.
Saturn is a gas giant, meaning it doesn't have a solid surface like Earth. If you could somehow stand on Saturn (which you couldn't), you'd sink right through the swirling clouds of hydrogen and helium gas. The planet is so large that more than 760 Earths could fit inside it, yet Saturn is surprisingly light for its size. In fact, if you could find an ocean big enough, Saturn would actually float in it.
The planet takes about 29 Earth years to orbit the Sun, but spins so fast on its axis that a day on Saturn lasts only about 10 hours. Saturn has at least 146 known moons, including Titan, which is larger than the planet Mercury and has rivers and lakes (though they're made of liquid methane, not water).
Saturn is named after the Roman god of agriculture and wealth, the father of Jupiter in Roman mythology.
