Sunday
The day of the week when many people rest and worship.
Sunday is the first day of the week in many calendars, and the day when most Christians traditionally attend church services.
For many families, Sunday feels different from other days. Schools and many businesses stay closed, giving people time to rest, worship, or spend time together. Some families have special Sunday traditions: attending religious services, cooking big meals together, or visiting relatives. In many communities, Sunday morning means church bells ringing and parking lots filling up with families in their nicest clothes.
The idea of Sunday as a day of rest connects to the Biblical creation story, where God rested on the seventh day. While Jewish people observe the Sabbath on Saturday, most Christians shifted their holy day to Sunday because they believe Jesus rose from the dead on a Sunday morning.
Not everyone treats Sunday as special anymore. Stores and restaurants often stay open, and some people work regular shifts. But many still feel that Sunday has a quieter, slower rhythm than the busy weekdays ahead. Whether you're reading on the couch, playing board games with family, or getting ready for the week to come, Sunday can carry that sense of pause before everything starts up again on Monday.
