T-ball
A simple beginner version of baseball for young children.
T-ball is a version of baseball designed for young children, usually ages 4-7, who are just learning the game. Instead of a pitcher throwing the ball, the batter hits it off a stationary tee (a stand that holds the ball at just the right height).
The tee solves one of baseball's hardest challenges: hitting a moving ball. In regular baseball, you need to track a fast pitch, judge its speed and location, and swing at exactly the right moment. That's tough for anyone, especially kids just starting out. T-ball lets beginners focus on making contact with the bat and running the bases without worrying about timing a pitch.
As players get better at hitting off the tee, many leagues introduce coach-pitch, where an adult gently tosses the ball from close range. Eventually, young players graduate to regular baseball or softball, where kids pitch to each other.
T-ball games are often delightfully chaotic: fielders might chase butterflies, runners sometimes forget which base to run to, and everyone gets a turn to bat. But that's the point. It's where countless players first learn to love baseball, developing basic skills while having fun with teammates.
