Tuesday
The day of the week between Monday and Wednesday.
Tuesday is often considered the third day of the week, falling between Monday and Wednesday. In many countries, including the United States, it's the second day of the regular school and work week.
The Romans named this day after Mars, their god of war, which is why Tuesday is martes in Spanish and mardi in French.
For most people, Tuesday feels like a steady, ordinary workday. It doesn't have Monday's rough start or Friday's excitement. Students settle into their weekly routines, assignments are due, and regular activities like piano lessons or soccer practice happen on their scheduled days. Some restaurants offer “Taco Tuesday” specials, and many movie theaters discount their tickets on Tuesdays to attract customers during a typically quiet day.
In American politics, elections almost always happen on Tuesdays in November, a tradition dating back to the 1840s, when farmers needed time to travel to polling places after Sunday church but before Wednesday market days.
