absolutely
Completely or totally, with no doubt at all.
Absolutely means completely, totally, or without any doubt. When something is absolutely true, there's no question about it. When you're absolutely certain, you have zero doubts.
The word adds emphasis and removes any wiggle room. If your mom asks whether you finished your homework and you say “yes,” that's one thing. But if you say “absolutely,” you're confirming it with total confidence, leaving no doubt in her mind.
People also use absolutely by itself as a strong way to say yes. If your friend asks “Can you come to my birthday party?” and you reply “Absolutely!” you're showing enthusiasm and certainty, not just agreement. It's more energetic than a simple “yes.”
You can use absolutely to strengthen almost any description. A test can be hard, or it can be absolutely impossible. A joke can be funny, or it can be absolutely hilarious. The room can be quiet, or it can be absolutely silent. In each case, you're saying there's no in-between: the thing is completely and totally what you're describing, with nothing held back.
