aforementioned
Mentioned earlier in the same writing or conversation.
Aforementioned means something that was mentioned earlier in a conversation, piece of writing, or formal document. It's a formal way of referring back to something without repeating all the details again.
You might see this word in a contract that says “the aforementioned property” instead of writing out the full address a second time. A history book might discuss several battles, then later refer to “the aforementioned conflicts” rather than listing them all again. In a school report, you might write about three scientists in one paragraph, then begin the next with “the aforementioned researchers discovered...”
While it sounds quite formal and you probably wouldn't use it in casual conversation with friends, it's useful when you want to sound official or avoid repetition in formal writing.
Think of it as a polite pointing gesture: instead of repeating yourself, you're asking the reader to remember what you already said. Most of the time, simpler words like “this” or “that” work just as well, but aforementioned adds a serious, businesslike tone when you need it.
