again
One more time, or happening another time after before.
Again means one more time, or another time after something has already happened. When your teacher says “Let's read that paragraph again,” she wants you to read it a second time. When you practice a piano piece again and again, you're repeating it many times to get better.
The word often carries a sense of return or repetition. If it rains today and then rains again tomorrow, the rain has come back. If you visit your grandmother's house and promise to come again soon, you're planning another visit.
People use again when something familiar reappears: “It's snowing again” or “She's late again.” Sometimes this repetition feels tiresome, like when you have to explain the same thing again. Other times it's welcome: winning a championship again or hearing your favorite song again.
The phrase once again adds emphasis, making the repetition more formal or significant: “The team proved once again that hard work pays off.” When something happens over and over again, it keeps repeating many times. And if you need to start fresh, you might begin again at the beginning, giving yourself another chance to succeed.
