aimlessly
In a way that has no clear goal or plan.
Aimlessly means doing something without a clear goal or purpose. When you wander aimlessly through a museum, you drift from room to room with no particular destination in mind, just seeing where your feet take you. A person scrolling aimlessly through videos isn't looking for anything specific, just passing time.
Sometimes wandering aimlessly can be pleasant and relaxing, like exploring a new neighborhood on a Saturday afternoon. But doing things aimlessly can also waste time and energy. A student who studies aimlessly, jumping randomly between subjects without a plan, usually learns less than someone working through the material systematically.
Notice the difference between aimlessly and purposefully. When you walk purposefully down the hall, everyone can tell you're heading somewhere specific. When you walk aimlessly, you might circle back, change directions for no reason, or stop to stare at things without really noticing them.
