ask
To say something to get information or help.
To ask means to pose a question or make a request. When you ask a question, you're seeking information: “What time does the movie start?” When you ask for something, you're requesting it: “May I please have another slice of pizza?”
Asking is one of the most powerful tools for learning and getting things done. Scientists ask questions about how the world works. Detectives ask questions to solve mysteries. Students who ask questions when they're confused can learn more than those who stay silent.
There's an art to asking well. A clear, specific question usually gets a better answer than a vague one. Asking politely, like adding “please” to a request, can make people more willing to help. And asking at the right time matters too: interrupting someone mid-sentence is different from waiting for them to finish.
