aspect
One part or side of something you are thinking about.
An aspect is one part or feature of something larger and more complex. When you examine different aspects of a problem, you're looking at it from various angles: the cost aspect, the time aspect, the fairness aspect. Each aspect reveals something important, like turning a gemstone to see different facets catch the light.
Think about planning a class field trip. The fun aspect matters, but so does the safety aspect, the educational aspect, and the cost aspect. A good plan considers multiple aspects together. When your teacher asks you to “consider all aspects of the issue,” she wants you to think about every important angle or dimension of the situation.
A movie might have exciting action sequences (the entertainment aspect) but also teach something meaningful (the educational aspect). Your best friend might be funny (one aspect of their personality) and also loyal (another aspect).
Geologists study different aspects of Earth's landscape. Historians examine multiple aspects of historical events. When you write a book report, you might discuss the plot, the character development, and the writing style. Understanding that complex things have many aspects helps you think more clearly and completely about the world around you.
