auditorium
A large room where people gather to watch events.
An auditorium is a large room designed for an audience to watch performances, listen to speakers, or attend events. Most schools have an auditorium where students gather for assemblies, plays, concerts, and presentations.
Auditoriums typically have rows of seats that face a stage or platform, often sloping upward toward the back so people in the rear can see over the heads of those in front. The design helps sound travel clearly throughout the room. Large auditoriums might seat hundreds or even thousands of people, while smaller ones hold just a classroom or two worth of students.
You'll find auditoriums in schools, concert halls, theaters, and convention centers. When your principal announces that “everyone should report to the auditorium,” you know to head to that special large room where the whole school can fit. It's the space that transforms an ordinary Tuesday into an assembly day, or a regular evening into a night at the theater.
