avowal
An open, strong statement of what you believe or feel.
An avowal is an open, honest declaration of something you believe or feel strongly about. When you make an avowal, you're not hinting or suggesting: you're stating something clearly and directly, often something important or personal.
If a student makes an avowal of friendship, she's openly declaring “You're my friend” rather than hoping the other person figures it out. When a scientist makes an avowal of her theory, she's clearly stating what she believes the evidence shows.
Avowals often involve some courage because you're putting yourself on the record. Someone might make an avowal of innocence when accused of something, or an avowal of support for an unpopular idea. The related adjective is avowed: an “avowed optimist” is someone who openly admits to being optimistic, even when others might hide it.
Notice how avowal differs from simply mentioning something in passing. An avowal has weight and intention behind it. When you make an avowal, you're taking a stand and letting everyone know exactly where you are.
