bath
A tub of water you sit in to get clean.
A bath is when you fill a tub with water and sit or lie in it to get clean. Unlike a shower where water sprays down on you, a bath lets you soak in warm water, which can feel relaxing after a long day or a tough sports practice. Young children often take baths because it's easier for parents to wash them that way, but people of any age might enjoy a hot bath to unwind or soothe sore muscles.
The word can also refer to the tub itself. You might say “draw a bath” when you're filling the tub with water, or “run a bath” when you turn on the faucet. In some countries, public baths or bathhouses are places where many people come to bathe and socialize, like the ancient Roman baths or Japanese onsen.
When something takes a bath in business, it means losing a lot of money, like a store that takes a bath during a slow season.
