bazillion
A pretend number meaning a huge, countless amount of something.
Bazillion is a made-up number word people use when they want to say “an enormous amount” without being precise. When your dad says he's told you a bazillion times to clean your room, he doesn't mean exactly 1,000,000,000,000 times. He means he's told you so many times that he's lost count and feels worn out from repeating himself.
Other playful number words work the same way: gazillion, jillion, and zillion all mean roughly the same thing. You might say there are a bazillion stars in the sky, a bazillion grains of sand on a beach, or a bazillion ants in an anthill. The word emphasizes that something is countless or overwhelming, not that you've actually measured it.
Because bazillion isn't a real number, you wouldn't use it in math class or scientific writing. But in casual conversation, it's a fun, energetic way to express just how huge something feels. When you say “I have a bazillion things to do today,” everyone understands you mean your to-do list feels impossibly long, even if it's really just seven items.
