bewildered
Very confused and not sure what is happening.
To be bewildered means to feel completely confused and disoriented, like you've suddenly lost your bearings. When you're bewildered, you don't just misunderstand one thing: you feel puzzled about everything happening around you, unsure which way to turn or what to do next.
Imagine walking into a classroom on the first day and discovering everyone is taking a test you didn't know about, using books you've never seen, while speaking a language you can't identify. That overwhelming sense of confusion is bewilderment. A student might feel bewildered when opening a math test full of problems that look nothing like what they studied. A hiker might feel bewildered after realizing the trail markers have disappeared and nothing looks familiar.
When you're bewildered, you're metaphorically lost in a confusing wilderness of information or circumstances. You might stare around with a bewildered expression, trying hard to make sense of what's happening.
Notice that bewilderment is temporary: once someone explains what's going on or you figure out the situation, the fog of confusion lifts and you can think clearly again.
