blessed
Feeling lucky and thankful for special good things in life.
Blessed means receiving special favor, protection, or good fortune, often from God or a higher power. When someone feels blessed, they recognize that good things in their life come as gifts rather than just through their own efforts. A family might feel blessed to have good health, close friendships, or opportunities to learn and grow.
In religious contexts, blessed has specific meanings. A priest might bless a person or object, asking God to protect or favor them. Catholics might pray with blessed rosary beads that a priest has blessed. Someone becomes beatified (declared “Blessed”) by the Catholic Church as a step toward sainthood.
The word also describes a state of deep happiness and contentment. When you hear someone say “I feel so blessed,” they're expressing gratitude for the good things they have, whether it's a loving family, a comfortable home, or simply a beautiful day. This feeling connects to counting your blessings, which means recognizing and appreciating the good things in your life instead of focusing on what you lack.
You might also hear blessed used more casually, like when someone says “Blessed be” as a warm goodbye. But at its heart, blessed always carries that sense of receiving something precious, something worth being genuinely thankful for.
