bonus
Something extra and good you get in addition to usual rewards.
A bonus is something extra and good that you receive beyond what you expected or were promised. When a store gives you a bonus gift with your purchase, you're getting more than you paid for. When your teacher announces a bonus question on a test, it's an extra chance to earn points without risking the points you already have.
Many people who work receive an annual bonus from their employer: extra money on top of their regular salary, often as a reward for good work or when the company does well. Some jobs offer signing bonuses to new employees, giving them extra money just for accepting the position.
Bonuses are welcome additions, not burdens. Getting to stay up late on a Friday night might feel like a bonus for finishing your chores early. Finding an extra cookie in the package is a small bonus that makes your day a little better.
Notice that bonus suggests something positive and additional. You don't lose anything by getting a bonus. It's pure gain, which is why people light up when they hear the word.
