boredom
A restless, unhappy feeling when nothing seems interesting to do.
Boredom is that restless, dissatisfied feeling you get when nothing seems interesting or engaging. It's what happens when you're stuck in a waiting room with nothing to do, or when a rainy Saturday afternoon stretches endlessly with no plans and nothing capturing your attention.
Boredom feels different from simply resting or being calm. When you're bored, time seems to crawl. Minutes feel like hours. You might fidget, sigh, or find yourself staring at the clock. Your mind wants something to focus on, but everything available seems dull or pointless.
Interestingly, boredom can signal an opportunity. Many important inventions, stories, and games emerged because someone got bored and decided to create something new. A bored child might invent an elaborate imaginary world. A bored scientist might wonder “what if?” and stumble onto a discovery.
Some people rarely experience boredom because they've developed the ability to find something interesting in almost any situation. They might observe details others miss, think through challenging problems, or daydream productively.
