breather
A short break to rest before starting again.
A breather is a short rest or pause from whatever you're doing. When a coach tells the team to “take a breather,” everyone gets a few minutes to catch their breath, drink some water, and recover before getting back to practice. When you've been studying hard for an hour, you might need a breather to clear your head.
When you work hard at something, you're often breathing heavily and need to slow down and breathe normally again. But a breather doesn't have to involve actual heavy breathing. You might take a breather from a long video game session, from raking leaves, or from a complicated art project.
A breather is usually brief, just long enough to recharge a bit. It's not a long vacation or a full day off. Think of it as hitting pause rather than stopping completely. After a breather, you're ready to get back to what you were doing with fresh energy and focus.
