built
Made or put together from parts; having a certain body shape.
Built is the past tense of the verb build, which means to construct or make something by putting parts or materials together. When workers built a house, they assembled wood, bricks, concrete, and other materials into a place where people could live. Ancient Egyptians built pyramids that still stand thousands of years later. You might have built a sandcastle at the beach or built a model rocket from a kit.
The word also describes someone's physical structure or body type. A football linebacker might be powerfully built, with strong muscles suited for the game. Someone who's been swimming for years develops a swimmer's build, with broad shoulders and lean muscles. When you say someone is well-built, you mean they have a strong, sturdy physique.
Something built to last was made with quality materials and careful craftsmanship, designed to endure for a long time rather than break quickly. A well-built piece of furniture won't wobble or fall apart. In a similar way, when you've built up your skills through practice, you've developed them gradually over time, making them solid and reliable.
