bull's-eye
The small center circle of a target worth most points.
A bull's-eye is the small circle at the very center of a target, worth the most points when you hit it. In archery or darts, hitting the bull's-eye means your aim was perfect.
When you hit a bull's-eye in darts, you score maximum points and often hear cheers from everyone watching. In archery competitions, athletes train for years to consistently hit the bull's-eye from long distances. The closer your arrow or dart lands to that center circle, the better your score.
People also use bull's-eye to mean getting something exactly right. If your teacher asks a question and you give a perfect answer, she might say, “Bull's-eye!” When a scientist's prediction turns out completely accurate, colleagues say she hit the bull's-eye.
The phrase captures that satisfying feeling of precision: hitting exactly on target. Whether you're throwing darts, solving a puzzle, or making a guess, hitting the bull's-eye means you nailed it.
