bullseye
The exact center of a target, worth the most points.
A bullseye is the small circle at the very center of a target, worth the most points when you hit it. In archery or darts, hitting the bullseye means your aim was extremely accurate.
When archers practice, they aim for the bullseye to test their skill and concentration. Getting a bullseye requires steady hands, careful focus, and often lots of practice. In darts, the bullseye is usually colored red and sits right in the middle of the circular board.
People also use bullseye to mean getting something exactly right. If your teacher asks a difficult question and you give the perfect answer, she might say, “Bullseye!” A detective who correctly identifies the suspect hit the bullseye with her theory. When you're trying to guess what your friend wants for her birthday and you pick exactly the right gift, that's a bullseye too.
The word captures that satisfying feeling of being right on target, whether you're throwing darts, solving a problem, or making a perfect guess.
