bunch
A group of things or people close together.
A bunch is a group of similar things that are close together or connected, often in a casual or informal way. When you pick flowers and hold them together in your hand, you have a bunch of flowers. Bananas grow in bunches naturally, all attached to the same stem. Your mom might grab a bunch of grapes at the grocery store.
People also use bunch to talk about groups of people or things in a relaxed way. You might say “a bunch of kids from school went to the park” or “I have a bunch of homework tonight.” Unlike more formal words like “collection” or “group,” bunch feels casual and imprecise. You wouldn't say you have a bunch of rare coins if you're being serious about your collection, but you'd definitely say you found a bunch of acorns under the oak tree.
The word can also mean to gather together or cluster. Your shirt might bunch up around your waist, or people might bunch together near the door when it starts raining. When fabric bunches, it creates wrinkles and folds by gathering in one spot instead of lying flat.
