caddie
A person who carries golf clubs and helps the golfer.
A caddie is someone who carries a golfer's clubs and equipment during a round of golf. On a golf course, a caddie walks alongside the player, lugging a heavy bag filled with different clubs, balls, tees, and other gear. But carrying clubs is just part of the job. An experienced caddie also helps the golfer choose which club to use, reads the slope and speed of the greens, offers advice on strategy, and keeps track of the score.
Professional golfers on tours like the PGA rely heavily on their caddies. A great caddie knows the course inside and out: where the tricky spots hide, how the wind affects each hole, and which risks are worth taking. Some famous golfer-caddie partnerships have lasted for years, built on trust and teamwork. The caddie might notice that the player's swing is off or suggest a safer route around a water hazard.
Many golf courses hire teenage caddies during the summer, making it a classic first job that teaches responsibility and pays well. In Scotland, where golf began, young assistants called caddies have been helping golfers since the 1600s.
