A camper is someone who stays outdoors overnight, usually in a tent, cabin, or recreational vehicle, as a way to enjoy nature and adventure. When your family goes camping in the woods, sleeping bags and all, everyone in that tent becomes a camper. Summer camps are full of campers: kids who spend days or weeks hiking, swimming, making crafts, and sleeping in cabins or tents.
The word also refers to the vehicle or shelter itself. A camper might be a small trailer you tow behind a car, or a larger motorhome with beds, a kitchen, and a bathroom built right in. Some families travel across the country in their camper, parking at campgrounds and national parks.
In video games, a camper means something quite different: a player who stays in one spot, often hiding, waiting for opponents to come by. Other players usually find this strategy frustrating because the camper isn't moving around or taking risks. If you hear your older sibling complain about “campers ruining the game,” they're not talking about people enjoying the outdoors.
