campsite
A place outdoors where people set up tents to camp.
A campsite is a designated spot where people set up temporary shelter outdoors, usually for sleeping overnight in tents, campers, or under the stars. When your family goes camping, you choose a campsite as your base: a flat area where you can pitch your tent, build a campfire, and store your gear.
Campsites come in different forms. In organized campgrounds, each site might have a picnic table, a fire ring, and access to bathrooms and water. Some campgrounds offer primitive campsites with nothing but a cleared space in the woods. In wilderness areas, you might create your own campsite by finding suitable ground a safe distance from trails and water sources, following Leave No Trace principles to protect nature.
Whether you're camping in a national park, at a lakeside campground, or in your own backyard, your campsite becomes your temporary home in the outdoors. A good campsite has level ground, is away from hazards like dead trees or flooding areas, and is in a spot where you can enjoy nature while staying safe and comfortable.
