cheesy
Trying too hard to be emotional or cool, so it feels fake.
Cheesy describes something that tries too hard to be impressive, touching, or funny but ends up feeling fake or overdone instead. When a movie has a cheesy ending where everything works out perfectly and everyone hugs while sappy music plays, it can feel artificial rather than genuine. A cheesy joke might make you groan instead of laugh because it's too obvious or corny.
Cheesy can also describe something cheap or low quality, like a horror movie with obviously fake monsters or a commercial with bad acting. Sometimes people enjoy things because they're cheesy: a wonderfully terrible song from the 1980s or a ridiculous superhero costume might be entertaining precisely because it's so over-the-top.
Not everyone agrees on what's cheesy. What feels sincere to one person might seem cheesy to another. The key is that something cheesy lacks authenticity, trying to create a feeling through formula rather than genuine emotion or effort.
