clementine
A small, sweet, easy-to-peel orange-like fruit.
A clementine is a small, sweet citrus fruit that looks like a tiny orange. Clementines have thin, loose skin that peels away easily, often coming off in just a few pieces. Inside, the segments separate cleanly without much of the white, stringy pith that clings to regular oranges.
Clementines are seedless (or nearly so), which makes them perfect for lunch boxes and quick snacks. They're sweeter and less acidic than most oranges, with a bright, sunny flavor.
You'll find clementines in grocery stores mainly during the winter months, often sold in small wooden crates or mesh bags. Their peak season runs from November through January, which is why they're sometimes called “Christmas oranges.” The combination of easy peeling, sweet taste, and no seeds has made clementines one of the most popular citrus fruits for kids and adults alike.
