closeness
A feeling of being very emotionally connected to someone.
Closeness is the feeling of being emotionally connected to someone, or the state of being near in space or time. When you have closeness with a friend, you trust them with your thoughts and feelings, and they do the same with you. That kind of closeness grows over years of shared experiences and honest conversations.
Physical closeness simply means being near something. If you're sitting in close proximity to the whiteboard, you have a good view. If two birthdays fall in close succession, they happen near each other in time.
The emotional kind of closeness is about genuine connection, listening, and caring about what happens in each other's lives. You might see classmates every day without feeling close to them. Families often share this closeness, but it can also grow between friends, teammates, or mentors and students.
People sometimes confuse closeness with constant togetherness, but you can feel close to someone even when they're far away. What creates closeness is understanding, trust, and the sense that someone truly knows and values you.
