community
A group of people who share something and support each other.
A community is a group of people connected by something they share: where they live, what they believe, what they do, or what they care about. Your neighborhood forms a community because people share the same streets, parks, and schools. Your soccer team creates a community through shared practices, games, and goals. Online, people form communities around shared interests like coding, chess, or birdwatching, even when they live thousands of miles apart.
Communities work because people help each other and create things together that no one could manage alone. A farming community might share equipment and knowledge about growing crops. A school community includes students, teachers, parents, and staff all working to make learning happen. Scientists form communities where they share discoveries and challenge each other's ideas, pushing knowledge forward faster than any researcher could alone.
Strong communities develop trust over time. Members look out for each other, celebrate successes together, and support each other through difficulties. When someone talks about their community, they mean the people and places where they feel they belong and contribute.
