concert
A live music show where performers play for an audience.
A concert is a live musical performance where musicians play for an audience. At a concert, you might see a symphony orchestra performing classical music in a grand hall, a rock band playing on a big stage with lights and amplifiers, or a smaller jazz group in a cozy club. Unlike listening to recorded music through headphones, at a concert you experience the music happening right in front of you, feeling the energy of the performers and sharing the moment with everyone around you.
Concerts create a special connection between performers and audience. A pianist might spend months preparing for a concert, practicing until every note flows perfectly. The audience responds with applause, showing their appreciation for the skill and emotion the musicians bring to their craft. Whether it's a school band concert where your friend plays trumpet, or a famous singer performing for thousands of fans, concerts remind us that music becomes even more powerful when people experience it together in the same space.
We still use “in concert” in non-musical settings, like “the firefighters worked in concert to spray water on the burning building,” meaning they worked together in a coordinated way.
