coverage
The amount or area that is included, reported, or protected.
Coverage means the extent to which something is dealt with, included, or protected. When a news reporter provides coverage of a soccer championship, she's reporting on what's happening there. When your health insurance offers dental coverage, it means the insurance will help pay for your dental care. When a painter applies good coverage to a wall, the paint spreads evenly without leaving bare spots.
The word suggests completeness or thoroughness. If a textbook has excellent coverage of the American Revolution, it explains the major events, causes, and consequences in detail. If a cellular phone company promises wide coverage, they mean their signal reaches most places you'd want to use your phone.
In sports, coverage can also mean defending against an opponent. A basketball player provides tight coverage on the other team's best scorer by staying close and making it hard for them to receive passes or take shots.
The phrase “we've got you covered” comes from this idea: it means someone has you protected or has taken care of what you need.
