culmination
The highest and final point of something important.
Culmination is the highest point or final result of something that has been building up over time. When months of rehearsal lead to opening night of the school play, that performance is the culmination of all the actors' hard work. When a scientist finally proves her theory after years of experiments, that discovery is the culmination of her research.
The word carries a sense of climax or completion. It marks the peak moment when everything comes together. A championship game is the culmination of a season. Graduation is the culmination of years of learning. Your birthday party might be the culmination of weeks of planning and anticipation.
Think of culmination as the top of a mountain you've been climbing. You don't reach the culmination at the beginning or middle of your journey. You reach it when you finally arrive at the summit, when all your effort and progress have led you to that defining moment. The word suggests both an ending and an achievement: the point where something reaches its greatest or most complete form.
