cultural
Related to a group’s shared beliefs, customs, and traditions.
Cultural describes anything related to the beliefs, customs, arts, and ways of life that groups of people share and pass down through generations. When your family celebrates certain holidays, cooks traditional foods, or tells particular stories, those are cultural practices. When a museum displays cultural artifacts from ancient Egypt, it's showing objects that reveal how Egyptians lived, what they valued, and what they believed.
Culture includes the music people listen to, the stories they tell, the games they play, and even how they greet each other. A cultural difference might be that some families take their shoes off before entering a house while others don't, or that some cultures bow as a greeting while others shake hands. These aren't right or wrong, just different ways communities have developed over time.
Schools often organize cultural festivals or cultural celebrations where students share foods, dances, or traditions from their backgrounds. When you read a book set in another country or time period, noticing cultural details helps you understand the characters better. Why do they act this way? What do they care about? Those questions reveal cultural values.
The word can also describe things that relate to arts and intellectual achievement, like visiting a cultural center with theaters, art galleries, and concert halls.
