Cyberspace is the virtual world that exists inside computer networks and the internet. When you send an email, play an online game, or video chat with a friend, you're interacting in cyberspace: a space that isn't physically real but feels real because you can communicate, share information, and do things there.

The word was invented by science fiction writer William Gibson in 1982, before most people had even heard of the internet. He imagined cyberspace as a kind of digital universe people could enter. Today, we use it to describe the connected digital world where websites exist, where data travels between computers, and where people meet online.

Think of cyberspace as an invisible layer that connects billions of devices worldwide. When you're browsing a website, you're navigating cyberspace. When you're texting your friend across town or gaming with someone across the globe, you're both present in cyberspace at the same time, even though you're physically far apart.
