decal
A picture or design that you transfer onto a surface.
A decal is a design or picture printed on special paper that can be transferred onto another surface, like a window, wall, or notebook.
You've probably seen decals on car windows (like parking permits or sports team logos), laptop covers, or bedroom walls. Some decals are applied by soaking them in water or peeling away a protective layer. Some are temporary and peel off easily, while others are meant to last for years.
The beauty of a decal is that it lets you customize things without paint or permanent markers. You might use wall decals to put stars on your ceiling or a favorite quote above your desk. Sports teams sell helmet decals that players earn for good plays. Model airplane builders use tiny decals to add authentic-looking numbers and insignias to their miniatures.
People sometimes use “decal” and “sticker” interchangeably, but technically a sticker usually stays on its backing until you stick it somewhere, while a decal is made to transfer its design onto the surface beneath it.
