desperately
In a very urgent, almost panicked way, needing something badly.
Desperately means doing something with urgent intensity because you need or want it so badly. When you search desperately for your lost phone before leaving for school, you're checking every pocket, dumping out your backpack, racing against time with real worry driving your actions.
The word captures that feeling when something matters enormously and you'll do almost anything to achieve it or avoid it. A hiker lost in the woods might desperately need water. A student who forgot about a project due tomorrow might desperately try to finish it overnight. Someone might desperately want to make the soccer team or desperately hope their best friend isn't angry with them.
Desperately means you feel almost frantic because the situation is serious or urgent. When someone acts desperately, they might take bigger risks or work harder than usual because they feel they have no other choice.
