disagreement
A situation where people have different opinions about something.
Disagreement is when people hold different opinions or beliefs about something. When you and your friend disagree about which movie to watch, or when scientists disagree about what caused the dinosaurs to go extinct, that's disagreement.
Disagreements happen constantly because people think differently, have different experiences, and value different things. Two classmates might disagree about the best strategy for winning a game. A family might disagree about where to go on vacation. Historians sometimes disagree about what really happened in the past, even when they're looking at the same evidence.
The word can also describe an argument or conflict, especially one that's more serious. When neighbors have a disagreement about property lines, or when countries have disagreements about trade policies, tensions can run high.
Disagreement isn't the same as being wrong. Two people can disagree and both have reasonable points, like when one friend thinks the book was better and another friend thinks the movie was better. Thoughtful people learn to disagree respectfully, listening to other viewpoints even when they don't change their minds. The goal isn't always to win the disagreement but to understand why someone sees things differently than you do.
