discontented
Unhappy and not satisfied with what you have.
Discontented means unhappy or dissatisfied with your current situation. When you feel discontented, nothing seems quite right: you want something different, something more, or something better than what you have.
A discontented student might complain that their classes are boring, their homework is pointless, and their friends aren't interesting enough. The problem isn't necessarily that these things are truly terrible: it's that the student focuses on what they don't like instead of noticing what might be good. Someone feeling discontented at a birthday party might focus on the one game they didn't get to play instead of enjoying the ten games they did get to play.
The word captures a restless, grumbling feeling. You might feel temporarily discontented when stuck inside on a rainy Saturday, wishing you could be at the pool. But chronic discontent means always finding fault, always wanting what you don't have, and never feeling satisfied.
Discontent differs from having legitimate complaints or working toward meaningful goals. A student who recognizes they need to study harder isn't discontented: they're being realistic and motivated.
