dispenser
A container or machine that gives out small amounts of something.
A dispenser is a container or device designed to give out its contents in a controlled, convenient way. Think of the soap dispenser by your sink: instead of unwrapping a bar of soap each time, you just press a pump and get exactly the amount you need. A tape dispenser holds a roll of tape and has a serrated edge that cuts it cleanly. A candy dispenser might release one piece at a time when you turn a knob.
Dispensers make everyday tasks easier and less messy. Schools use paper towel dispensers in bathrooms so students can grab what they need without touching a shared roll. Stores have gumball dispensers that drop a single gumball when you insert a quarter. Some dispensers are simple, like a tissue box that lets you pull out one tissue at a time. Others are more complex, like the machines that dispense cold drinks or the pharmacy counters where pharmacists dispense medications.
When we talk about objects, a dispenser is specifically a device built to distribute something in a practical, measured way.
