dresser
A bedroom cabinet with drawers for storing clothes.
A dresser is a piece of bedroom furniture with drawers for storing clothes. Most dressers stand about waist-high or taller and have multiple drawers stacked on top of each other, making it easy to organize socks in one drawer, shirts in another, and pajamas in a third. The top surface gives you a place to set a lamp, display family photos, or keep everyday items like your watch or hairbrush.
Dressers come in different styles and sizes. A tall, narrow dresser is sometimes called a chest of drawers, while a long, low dresser with a mirror attached is often called a bureau. Some kids share a dresser with a sibling, carefully dividing which drawers belong to whom.
The word also means a person who dresses in a particular way. Someone might be called a sharp dresser if they always look neat and put-together, or a sloppy dresser if their clothes are usually wrinkled or mismatched. When actors prepare for a performance, a costume dresser helps them get into their elaborate outfits, fastening buttons and adjusting details they can't reach themselves.
