duster
A cloth or tool used to wipe dust off surfaces.
A duster is a cloth or tool used for wiping away dust from furniture, shelves, and other surfaces. The classic feather duster has real or artificial feathers attached to a handle, perfect for reaching into corners or brushing dust off picture frames without knocking them over. Some dusters are made of microfiber cloth that traps dust instead of just spreading it around.
The word also describes a light coat or jacket worn to protect clothes from dust. These protective coats were loose-fitting and usually made of canvas or linen. Today, people sometimes call any lightweight jacket a duster if it has that long, flowing style.
In baseball, a duster is a pitch thrown high and inside, dangerously close to the batter's head, forcing them to duck or “hit the dust.” Pitchers might throw a duster to intimidate batters or push them back from home plate, but it's considered aggressive and unsportsmanlike.
