elsewhere
In or to another place, not here.
Elsewhere means in, at, or to another place. When your mom says your missing soccer cleats must be elsewhere, she means they're somewhere other than where you're currently looking. If a student's mind wanders elsewhere during a lesson, their thoughts have drifted away from the classroom to some other place or topic.
You might read that a rare bird usually found elsewhere in the world has appeared in your state, or hear that someone moved elsewhere after leaving town. When a store employee tells you a product is available elsewhere, they mean you'll need to look at a different store.
Elsewhere often carries a sense of distance or separation. If your best friend seems distracted and looking elsewhere, they're not fully present with you. When a book mentions that “elsewhere in the kingdom, trouble was brewing,” it's shifting the story to a different location while the action continues in multiple places at once.
