enhancement
An improvement that makes something better than it was before.
Enhancement means improving something or making it better than it was before. When you make an enhancement to your science project, you add something that makes it more impressive or more effective: maybe better labels, clearer explanations, or an extra experiment that strengthens your conclusions.
The word describes taking something that already works and making it even better. Enhancement goes beyond fixing what's broken to elevating something functional to a higher level. A software company might release enhancements to their app, adding new features that make it more useful. An athlete might use special training techniques as performance enhancements, helping them run faster or jump higher.
You'll often see this word in technology: photo editing software has enhancement tools that can brighten colors or sharpen blurry images. Video games receive enhancements that improve graphics or add new levels. In each case, the original thing was already functional, but the enhancement elevates it to a higher level.
The verb form is enhance: “The new illustrations really enhance the story.” Think of enhancement as the difference between a plain pizza and that same pizza with your favorite toppings. The basic pizza works fine, but the enhancements make it something special.
