episode
One part of a TV show or other ongoing story.
An episode is one part of a larger story or series. When you watch a TV show, each episode is a complete segment that usually lasts about 20 to 60 minutes. A season might have ten or twenty episodes, and each one continues the story while having its own beginning, middle, and end. Think of episodes like chapters in a book: each one moves the plot forward, but you need to watch or read them all to get the complete story.
The word also describes a single event or period in someone's life, especially one that stands out. A student might remember an embarrassing episode when they tripped in the cafeteria, or a family might laugh about that episode when they got lost on vacation. In this sense, an episode is a distinct incident that happened at a particular time.
In medicine, doctors talk about episodes of illness, like an episode of asthma or allergies. This means a period when symptoms appear and then go away. Someone with migraines might have an episode once a month.
